A note to adult readers - 8/10/2003

In 1999, nurse Diane Duxter from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor began traveling to schools around southeast Michigan, presenting information on smoking and other unhealthy habits.

Several years ago, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Manak Sood joined her. Thanks to an anonymous grant, their efforts became a full program at the hospital in 2004.

The unique program combines a hands-on approach to learning about the effects of smoking with a fact presentation.

Based on the program, Your Health for Kids is giving Monroe County children a lesson in smoking from a different angle.
